January 28
YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN - The Heritage of Healing Youth and Elders Conference for the Great Lakes Region scheduled for today has been postponed until next Saturday, January 28.
The event will be held at the Ypsilanti Senior & Community Center, 1015 Congress.
In the evening, the Native Youth Alliance will hold its Presidential Inaugural Powwow. This is the first in series of youth and elders conferences to be held every other month during 2012. Each conference will take place in a different location throughout Indian Country. The conference series will conclude with the Youth and Elders Conference to be held in conjunction with next year's Presidential Inaugural Powwow in Washington DC at the time of the Presidential Inaugural in January 2013.
The conferences are designed to give American Indian youth a chance to express their concerns for the future of the American Indian people and their ideas for solutions. The findings and recommendations will be consolidated into a document to be presented to representatives of the incoming presidential administration in January 2013.
A sunrise ceremony will take place at 7:00 am. The conference begins at 12 noon. The powwow will be held after dinner.
