Keystone XL Pipeline MapMidnight October 9

Native Brief: WASHINGTON - If you have an opinion on the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline that will pass through the United States from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, the deadline is looming.

American Indian tribes, the National Congress of American Indians, Indigenous Environmental Network and environmentalist groups are opposed to the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Two major concerns by American Indian tribal leaders are the negative impact on the environment and health in Indian Country.

Proponents of the pipeline cite creation of jobs and national security issues as the reason why the United States should get oil out of Canada.

President Obama is expected to make a decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline early next month.

You must submit your written public comments on the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline are being accepted by the US State Department through midnight October 9, 2011.

Information about how to submit them is available on the US State Department's website at www.KeystonePipeline-XL.State.gov »
