Wolakota Omniciye Underway on Pine Ridge Indian ReservationTreaty Delegates Welcome

PINE RIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION - A Wolakota Omniciye for the Tiospae/Bands of the Oceti Sakowin will gather today and tomorrow at the Prairie Wind Casino on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

“We strong encourage members of the Great Plains Tribal Chairman's Association to sponsor their Band's Treaty Delegates to travel to this important gathering,”

commented Oliver Red Cloud - Ite Sica Tiospaye, Intancan, Black Hills Sioux Nation Treaty Council.

The purpose of the gathering is:

  • Present and discuss issues relevant to the governance and preservation of the Oceti Sakowin, its culture and territory;
  • To receive updates on the implementation of the previous resolutions of the Black Hills Sioux Nation Treaty Council;
  • To received updates on environmental protection work including the Keystone XL pipeline status and efforts to halt uranium mining expansion; and
  • To hear the continuing international developments led by the Black Hills Sioux Nation Treaty Council's efforts to enforce the 1851 and 1868 Fort Laramie Treaties in international forums, such as the United Nations.

Oral presentations and written documentation will be made available at the gathering on all of the above areas. Comments will are encouraged at the gathering.
