Native News Network Staff in Native Currents. Discussion »
TAMPA "Voices of Our People" hosted by Emelie Jeffries, part of Two Worlds Indigenous Radio, welcomes a discussion on the Veronica Brown removal from her biological father, Dusten Brown, that happened this past Monday evening.
Jeffries' guest include: Terry Cross, executive director of the National Indian Child Welfare Association, based in Portland, Oregon; Trace DeMeyer, Native American Adoptee and author of "One Small Sacrifice: Lost Children of the Indian Adoption Projects" and "Two Worlds: Lost Children of the Indian Adoption Projects;" and our own Levi Rickert, editor of Native News Network.
“I've received comments via facebook messages and email about why I am focusing on the Veronica Brown case as much as I am and its because this case along with many other events over the last year is part of a much bigger picture,”
“The Veronica Brown case and the way it was handled sets us back back to a time when stealing Native children was government sanctioned and now here we are again. The outcome of this case is important because its sets a precedence that I believe endangers all Native children of all indigenous nations of this country,”
“This case has removed scabs of many hearts in Indian country that never healed from decades and decades Indian children removal from their family and tribal circles,”
“There has been such high interest in this case, it is imperative we keep it out there. Hopefully, the non-Native media will seek to discover why American Indians are so upset over this case.”
