US Interior Heads at Crow Nation Friday

BILLINGS, MONTANA - On Friday, July 15, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Deputy Secretary David J. Hayes will attend the first regional government-to-government regional tribal consultations regarding the Trust Land Consolidation component of the Cobell Settlement.

Later in the day, Secretary Salazar and Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Mike Connor will visit Crow Indian Reservation to celebrate the recently approved Crow Tribe Water Rights Settlement, which will ensure safe drinking water for the reservation as well as provide for the rehabilitation of the Crow Irrigation Project.

Secretary Salazar recently announced that, at the request of Chairman Black Eagle, the first $500,000 of the settlement funds appropriated by Congress have been released to the tribe and that $4.9 million of early funding for the settlement have been made available for future disbursement to the tribe.
