VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA - The protesters at the Sogorea Te spiritual encampment are passing on two invitations and a special request to lend support for the protection of the Sacred Site. The two upcoming dates - Friday, July 8 for a speaking/film screening event in Oakland and an important City Council meeting on Tuesday July 12 in Vallejo.
Sogorea Te Spiritual Encampment
Corrina Gould, Ohlone, and Wounded Knee DeOcampo, Miwok, will be speaking, and three short films will be screened: "Shellmound" by Andrés Cediel, "The Spiritual Encampment to Protect Glen Cove" by Rebecca Ruiz-Lichter, and an excerpt from "Free Land" by Ariel Luckey.
Event starts at 7:00 pm Friday, July 8 at the Intertribal Friendship House, 523 International Blvd in Oakland.
Food, drinks, posters, literature and t-shirts will be for sale as a fundraiser.
The spiritual encampment committee wants to encourage supporters to attend the next Vallejo City Council meeting on Tuesday July 12th, the cultural easement being proposed by the Cortina and Yocha Dehe tribes will be brought to the table for discussion. The Committee to Protect Glen Cove is requesting that people attend this City Council meeting in order to show support for the cultural easement and for the protection of all 15 acres of the Glen Cove sacred burial grounds.
The Council meeting beings at 7:00 pm, however, the supporters will be gathering in front of City Hall at 6:00 pm. City Hall is located at 555 Santa Clara Street in downtown Vallejo.
The spiritual encampment committee is also making a special request for supporters to come and stay at the spiritual encampment this coming week to prevent a possible attempt by the Vallejo authorities from removing the prayer gathering.
