Culture Shock Camp
SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS - Trickster Gallery-Native American Arts will be celebrating November is National Native American Heritage Month with an concert open to everyone of all ages, presented by two of the most influential recording artists in Indian Country.
The concert features Culture Shock Camp. From 6:00 - 7:00 pm cst, they will be presenting a Cultural Awareness, Music, and Wellness Workshop, followed by a Live Concert from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Their music ranges from motivational urban music to traditional Native American songs. They will also be welcoming special guest, D-Nick from Chicago.
For the first time ever, Trickster Gallery will be live streaming their event at www.ustream.tv/trickstergallery, so that anyone in the world can enjoy the show.
Culture Shock Camp is a group that originated in the Southern Plains of Oklahoma with a vision and message of drug/alcohol free wellness, culture, language, spirituality, artistic and musical expression, leadership, education, and healthy living. Brothers Marcus and Brian Frejo have traveled to more than 200 Indian Reservations, 150 national and regional conferences, 50 universities and colleges, and over 100 cities in the past five years sharing their knowledge and music.
"We all have the opportunity to help ourselves, family, and people. I was given the message in ceremony that 'when we help our people, we help ourselves' and that stuck in my mind for a long time, and was inspiring in my journey to keep doing positive things" says Brian Frejo.
Live Streaming Online
Through youth leadership trainings, workshops, performing arts camps, music production, songwriting, spoken word, concerts, sporting, community and special events, Culture Shock Camp has influenced the lives of thousands of Native and non-Natives Nationwide and Internationally.
In addition to his work with communities, Brian has appeared in over 20 films and television series, been the spokesperson for the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma Tribal College, Native Threads Clothing, Native American Rights Fund, and was part of the Grammy nominated drum group, Youngbird. Marcus is an award winning music artist, having been on stage with some of the biggest names in the urban music industry. His music has appeared in films, both major and independent.
Trickster Gallery opened in 2005 as part of the American Indian Center of Chicago's Arts Program. The American Indian Center is the oldest urban Indian Center in the country, with Trickster being the only Native American owned and operated arts institution in the state.
Donations of $5 for 12 and up will help the non-profit organization in creating future educational programs.
