Powwow and Freedom Walk to Celebrate Sobriety Weekend
MOUNT PLEASANT, MICHIGAN The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan is holding their 28th Annual Powwow this weekend. It runs from August 3rd to the 5th. The powwow is a celebration and reunion of sorts with many tribal and community members coming to participate from all over the United States.
Along with the powwow, the Saginaw Chippewa will be holding their Freedom Walk to Celebrate Sobriety. It starts at 7am this Saturday at the Tribal Gym and will end at the Powwow/Campground. The Freedom Walk is one of the many events the Saginaw Chippewa are having to help celebrate what the tribe has designated as American Indian Sobriety Month.
Each year, between 300 and 400 people participate in the Freedom Walk, according to Hunter Genia, director of Behavioral Health Program for the tribe.
All are welcome to participate in the Freedom Walk to celebrate sobriety
