10 Future Leaders
TUCSON, ARIZONA - Ten American Indian or Alaska Native students have been selected as 2011 Udall Scholars by the Udall Foundation.
“This year’s group of scholars is one of our strongest classes ever, with an impressive showing of Native students pursuing careers related to tribal public policy or Native American health care,”
said Terrence L. Bracy, chair of the board of trustees for the Udall Foundation.
Each scholarship provides up to $5,000 for the Scholar’s junior or senior year. Five of the students intend to pursue careers in tribal public policy and the remaining five in the health care field. Three of the Scholars were chosen from tribal colleges.
The 2011 Udall Scholars will be in Tucson, Arizona to receive their awards. While there, they will have the opportunity to meet with policymakers and community leaders in environmental fields, tribal health care and governance. Additionally, a full-day Nation Building Workshop facilitated by the Native Nations Institute will be available to the Scholars.
The Udall Foundation review committee also awarded 50 Honorable Mentions. Honorable Mentions will receive a $350 award.
