Sudden Death Birdie Putt Propels Rickie Fowler to First PGA Win

PGA Winner Rickie Fowler

CHARLOTTE – Considered a rising star in golf since his arrival on the PGA Tour back in 2009, Rickie Fowler showed us why. This past weekend he took another step in becoming a star by winning the Wells Fargo Championship when he defeated Rory McIlroy and DA Points, and on the first hole of a playoff.

This win has silenced many critics who have been on Fowler, whose maternal Grandmother is Navajo, for not winning a PGA tournament event in his previous 66 starts as a pro. Rickie Fowler has finished 22nd and 36th in the money list the past two years despite not winning any events. He has gained many fans with his all orange outfits, supporting his Oklahoma State University, along with his exciting play.

Rickie Fowler has had a few close calls before the win this weekend.

He came close in a playoff in his 2nd PGA Tour start out of college. Rickie did win the OneAsia, Kolon Korea Open this past October 9th. But this win is the first US tournament win. As well as a couple other events the past 2 years, but after this win in the Wells Fargo Championship Rickie Fowler is poised to move up into the list of elite golfers.

Known to Native News Network visitors as the runner up in last year's Notah Begay Foundation Challenge Golf Open, the 23 year old moves up to the 15th rank in the Fed Ex Cup at 855.72 points. His Wells Fargo Championship scores where 66-72-67-69=274, or 14 under par.
