URBANA - CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS – Award-winning author Sherman Alexie is coming to the Illini Union Ballroom on the campus of the University of Illinois on September 6.

Alexie will perform the "Without Reservations: An Urban Indian's Comic, Poetic & Highly Irreverent Look at the World" program

Sherman Alexie is a poet, screenwriter, and filmmaker, whose writing often draws from his experiences growing up on an American Indian reservation. He has authored 22 books. He won a National Book Award for "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian" and the PEN/Faulkner Award for "War Dances."

His film, "Smoke Signals," won the 1998 Sundance Film Festival's Audience Award and Filmmakers' Trophy.

The public can join Alexie before the performance for a Meet & Greet followed by a book signing from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm in the Author's Corner on the second floor of the Illini Union Bookstore.

This event is sponsored by the Student Cultural Programming Fee, Illini Union Board, Illini Union Bookstore, the Native American House and the American Indian Studies at the University of Illinois.
