TULSA - The National Association of Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations 24th annual conference, "Rockin Native Families with Healthy Food That’s How We Roll" is underway at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This conference is the forum to discuss national issues involving the United States Department of Agriculture, USDA, Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations.
This week the USDA will be addressing a wide range of important initiatives during the conference. These include food package changes under consideration, pending regulatory changes, the 2012 fiscal year President’s Budget, food safety issues and the upcoming Farm Bill.
The Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations is utilized by some 271 American Indian tribes. The average monthly participation for Fiscal Year 2009 was over 95,000 low-income individuals, living near or on Indian reservations.
Participants can choose from some 70 different food products, which include frozen meats, canned meat, spaghetti sauces, macaroni and cheese, canned fruits and vegetables.
The conference runs from June 5 - 10.
