TULSA, OKLAHOMA Since Monday's transfer of four year old Veronica Brown from her biological father, Dusten Brown to the non-Native adoptive couple from South Carolina, American Indians have expressed their outrage at yet another Indian child taken from her family by non-Native people.
Sadly, Dusten Brown had to relinquish custody of Veronica after exhausting all legal proceedings. After the Oklahoma Supreme Court rendered its decision to lift the stay that allowed Veronica to stay with her biological father, Brown cooperated with law enforcement officials to ensure a peaceful transfer; not a willing transfer.
Still the transfer has reopened the wounds that thousands of American Indians have endured because of removal from their Indian families.
Several rallies have been set for today to show support for the Brown family and to inform the public as to why American Indians are fed up and outraged at the continued removal of Indian children.
People who attend the rallies are asked to be do so in a peaceful manner with signs that sends the message something needs to change in modern society.
