The Power of the Native Vote It has been a busy week. With some 130 voter registration drive efforts happening throughout Indian country, Native Vote Action Week has been a success bringing attention to the importance of participating in democracy.
Native Vote, the initiative of the National Congress of American Indians, has been the catalyst in the voter drive efforts and should be commended.
Even with the week coming to an end, the commitment to getting out the vote does not end. Individuals should check within their individual states where they reside and vote to determine deadlines for voter registration.
This week's Photo of the Week is one of Chief Joseph that reads:
“Chief Joseph used his power to lead Use your power.”
The Native News Network posted it to its Facebook wall. Some 369 fellow Facebook subscribers shared it.
It is a powerful image of a power chief, who fought hard for his people. Voting, especially in blocks, can become a very powerful thing for American Indians and Alaska Natives.
