Oshke-Kno-Kewéwen Powwow

DOWAGIAC, MI -The Oshke-Kno-Kewéwen Powwow is entering its third year put on by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi. It is a celebration that honors Pokagon veterans and their Eagle Staff. It takes place at the Pokagon Band powwow arena at its Rodgers Lake campus.

Oshke-Kno-Kewéwen refers to a new eagle staff is the Potawatomi language. An eagle staff is much like a flag and recently the Pokagon Band veterans began making a new one to represent the tribal community. The new staff has more than 90 eagle feathers with each representing a veteran in a tribal family.

The Pokagon Band have a powwow in the fall that is more of a contest powwow with dancers competing in different categories. The Oshke-Kno-Kewewen Powwow is considered a traditional powwow that is focused on brining the community together.
