MESA, ARIZONA In preparation for the USCAA Nationals in Syracuse, New York next month, the Navajo Technical University men’s cross country team competed in the Mesa Thunderbird Cross Country Classic last Saturday at Mesa Community College.
NavajoTech was led by runners Kevin Ben of Window Rock, Arizona and Caleb Morgan of Heart Butte, New Mexico, who clocked in times of 28:15 and 28:28 respectively in leading NavajoTech to a sixth place finish in the men’s 8k. Mesa Community College placed first in the team standings followed closely by Central Arizona College and Arizona Christian University. Dine’ College edged NavajoTech in the final standings, placing 5th as a team.
Also competing for NavajoTech included Tyson Ramone of Smith Lake, New Mexico; Eric Bailey of Window Rock, Arizona; Cyrus Coan of Black Hat, New Mexico; and Kelly Ben of Twin Lakes, New Mexico. Twyla Charlie of Smith Lake, New Mexico and Robin Pearl of Nazlini, Arizona ran for NavajoTech in the women’s 5k, but were forced to run unattached with not enough team runners competing to qualify for a team score.
Charlie clocked in a time of 22:13, while Pearl rounded out the field with a time of 23:12.
The Skyhawks will next run at the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, California on October 19th before heading to Syracuse for Nationals, November 7-8.
