Native Brief: STANFORD, CALIFORNIA Alvina Begay, Navajo, won the 10,000 meter run in the Event 60 at the Payton Cardinal Invitational.

She finished the race in 32:34.76. This run was her personal best running time.
Her victory automatically qualified her to run in the US Olympic trials June 22 this summer at the Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Begay's time finishing time was 11 seconds below the minimal standard for the Automatic "A" sectional of the United States Olympic qualifying standards, according the NDN Sports.
Begay was raised on the Navajo Reservation in Ganado, Arizona. She has achieved the honor of being an academic, as well as an athletic All-American. She excelled in track at Adams State College and Arizona State University.
She is a Nike N7 Ambassador for Indian Country.
