Navajo President Ben Shelly
Native Brief: WINDOW ROCK, ARIZONA - As a means to contact with the Navajo Nation citizens on a local level, Navajo President Ben Shelly attended the quarterly Fort Defiance Agency Council meeting this past Saturday.
“We need to go to the people to hear their concerns. We need to share our information of what we, as leaders are doing for the people.”
President Shelly stated.
He emphasized the need to hear from the Navajo people on issues that concern their community.
With nearly 100 people in attendance, President Shelly gave a report of on-going projects on the Navajo Nation.
In the report addressed to the Fort Defiance Navajo Agency Council, President Shelly covered a variety of topics from the opening of Northern Edge casino to the Energy policy, scholarships and the Federal budget.
Another priority listed in the executive report was supplemental funding.
"I encourage all you chapters to spend your money wisely, use it for gravel for your roads, hay for your animals, wood for the elderly, scholarships for students, and to haul water during the summer."
President Shelly stated in regards to supplement funding.
Upon being elected president of the Navajo Nation, President Shelly committed to reaching as many Navajo citizens as possible.
