Navajo Enterprise Boards
WINDOW ROCK, ARIZONA Navajo President Ben Shelly is seeking letters of interest for 31 board and commission member positions to seven Navajo enterprise boards.
Most the board and commission member vacancies are a result of expired terms.
“We need fill our boards and commissions with experienced, knowledgeable Navajo people. We need to move forward with progression of the enterprises on the Navajo Nation,”
President Shelly said.
The boards and commissions oversee operations of various Navajo Nation enterprises.
The Office of the President and Vice President began a review process of boards and commissions bylaws in February and found 31 seats the needed to be filled.
Throughout the process, the President's office updated the Navajo Nation Council Resources and Development Committee of the Navajo Nation Council.
President Shelly will be accepting letters of interest and resumés from Monday, March 19 to Monday, April 2 for various boards and commission seats available.
Below is a list of the boards and commissions that are in need appointments:
Navajo Arts and Crafts Enterprise
Member Board Chairs Available- Three (3)
Qualifications: Individuals who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation with at least a high school education or equivalent and with substantial experience in business or in the manufacture of arts and crafts.Navajo Nation Oil & Gas Company
Member Board Chairs Available -: Six (6)
Qualifications: Director shall have substantial management experience in the oil and gas industry or shall have substantial experience and or management responsibility in corporate finance, accounting, economics, law, business management, engineering, geophysics, geology, or similar discipline. It is preferred that at least one board member have substantial's oil field and production experience and knowledge of the general regulatory framework for oil and gas operations within Navajo Indian country and that each Director have knowledge of corporate financial statements and capital planning. Each director shall possess at least a Bachelor's degree from a recognized and accredited four-year institution of higher learning and advanced degrees are preferred. Subject to these qualifications, a majority of the directors shall be enrolled members of the Navajo Nation. No Director shall be an employee of the federal or Navajo Nation government.
Navajo Nation Shopping Center, Inc.
Member Board Chairs Available - Five (5)
Qualifications: The Board shall have at least three (3) members who are enrolled members of the Navajo nation. All Board members must have at least ten (10) years of recognized business expertise in business law, finance, real estate or economics and substantial management experience in the shopping center industry or business management.
Navajo Agriculture Product, Inc.
Member Board Chairs Available - Three (3)
Qualifications: The President shall appoint 5 members individuals with substantial business experience; from the Western, Chinle and Eastern Agencies; three of the Directors shall have substantial experience in successful agribusiness commercial farming. At least one Director shall be educated in the field of agriculture, one Director shall reside within District 13 and one Director shall reside within District 19. Preference in the appointment of Directors shall be given to Navajos; secondarily, to non-Navajo spouses who are legally married to Navajos who meet the minimum qualifications for Board membership.
Navajo Telecommunication Regulatory Commission
Member Board Chairs Available - Five (5)
Qualifications: The Commission shall consist of seven Commissioners, all of whom shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the President of the Navajo Nation. No Commission member shall have a financial, political or any other interest or motive in any sector of the telecommunications industry of the Navajo Nation, as provided for in the Navajo Nation Ethics in Government Law. The Commission members shall carry out their duties and responsibilities in a manner, which protects and promotes the best interests of the Navajo Nation.
Navajo Engineering and Construction Authority
Member Board Chairs Available: Six (6)
Qualifications: At least six directors of the Board shall be enrolled members of the Navajo Nation. Individuals with experience and/or education in the engineering, construction, architectural, legal, accounting, management, or other construction related field shall be given preference for appointment to the Board.
Native Broadcast Enterprise
Member Board Chairs Available - Three (3)
Qualifications: Board of Directors will be comprised of persons with education and experience in the following fields: broadcast management, electrical engineering, business management, and knowledge in modern technology. However, at least one member will have substantial knowledge of Navajo culture and traditions and not be subject to the English education and experience requirements. Appointed Board of Directors members shall reside within the exterior boundaries of the Navajo Nation or within 50 miles outside of the Navajo Nation boundaries.
