WINDOW ROCK, ARIZONA Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly met with Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association Commissioner Karl Stressman to discuss the return of the PRCA Rodeo to the 4th of July events in Window Rock.
More Support for Navajo Rodeo Athletes
Last week's meeting highlighted the return of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo to Window Rock and working together on initiatives to involve more young people in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association.
“We see young professional cowboys making it to the National Finals Rodeo and they represent the Navajo Nation very well in professional rodeo.”
President Shelly stated.
The professional cowboys making waves at the 2011 National Finals Rodeo were Erich Rogers of Round Rock, Ariz. and Derrick Begay of Seba Dalkai, Ariz. Rogers won the seventh round of the NFR with partner Kory Koontz with the time of 3.7 seconds. Begay went into the Finals ranked number one.
“The Navajo Nation was proud to see our young cowboys head into the largest rodeo event and show the world the Navajo Nation has young men and women that are good at this sport. I want support to the rodeo athletes through all their endeavors,”
President Shelly stated.
Mr. Stressman co-founded the campaign, which is popularly known as "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" which brings support and awareness to breast cancer.
