'Navajo Nation Commercial Tobacco-Free Day' Rally Set for Today

WINDOW ROCK, ARIZONA - Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly and Vice President Rex Lee Jim are encouraging all Navajo Nation tribal members to “trash your commercial tobacco” today in Window Rock.

In an effort to educate and encourage tobacco users to trash smoking and chewing commercial tobacco products, the Shelly/Jim administration is holding the rally today.

The following Navajo Division of Health experts and tobacco-free educational information booths will be on-site and open to the general public:

  • Health Education Program to provide commercial tobacco prevention education.
  • Department of Behavioral Health Services to provide prevention activities on controlled substances, including commercial tobacco.
  • Navajo Special Diabetes Project to conduct on-site diabetic screening and offer prevention education and information.

Time:     11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Date:     Tuesday, May 31, 2011

What:   Garbage bins will be on-site to trash commercial tobacco products.

Where:   Parking lot of the Navajo Nation Department of Transportation, at the corner of West Highway 264 and Route 12 in Window Rock, Arizona.
