Native Brief: TUCSON, ARIZONA - Wenona Benally Baldenegro, Navajo, who is running for the Democratic Party's nomination in Arizona's Congressional District One picked up the endorsement of the AFSCME #449 of Pima County, Arizona on Wednesday by a unanimous vote.

AFSCME #449 represents the blue collar workers of the City of Tucson, Pima Community College, TUSD, and all employees of El Rio Medical Centers.

"I am proud to stand with AFSCME, the United Steelworkers of America, IAMAW (Machinists), and all other labor unions in standing up for America's working people and middle-class families,"

stated Benally Baldenegro.

"As the next Congresswoman for Congressional District One, I will support the Employee Free Choice Act, I will advocate for fair trade over free trade, and I will work to end the Bush tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy."

Benally Baldenegro, 34, is first Navajo woman to ever run for Congress. And if she succeeds in her quest, Baldenegro will become the first American Indian woman to ever serve in Congress in the history of the United States.
