Native Brief: CHURCH ROCK, NEW MEXICO - Stakeholders for the Church Rock electrical line extension project will convene at the Fire Rock Casino today at 10 am mst. The meeting will take place in the casino bingo hall and will include New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez.
Church Rock Electrical Line Extension Project included 27.5 miles of primary line
The Church Rock Chapter has been developing the project for the past 11 years, to bring electricity services to Navajo families living in the communities of White Cliff, Sundance, Rehoboth and Peretti Canyon.
Conglomerate funding for the project came from the Navajo Nation Capital Improvement Office (CIO), Church Rock Chapter, New Mexico Tribal Infrastructure Funds and Navajo Abandoned Mine Lands (AML), to meet the costs of constructing the power line.
Continental Divide Electric Cooperative laid 27.5 miles of primary line and activation of the line will take place on November 16, with a celebration at the Church Rock Chapter beginning at 9 am.
The multi-agency effort to construct the power line was from the efforts of the Community Housing and Infrastructure Department, CIO, Church Rock Chapter, CDEC, Gallup Joint Utility, AML, Land Administration, Office of Environmental Health, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Sacred Wind Communication, Fire Rock Casino, Crownpoint Project Development Department, Division of Economic Development, Eastern Local Governance Support Center and the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President.
