Native Youth Alliance has Packed Agenda for Presidential Inauguration

Editors note:Overnight the Native News Network received an updated schedule of events from the Native Youth Alliance. The updated information below includes cancelled events and revised event times during President Barack Obama's second inauguration.

WASHINGTON – The Native Youth Alliance is hosting three different inaugural events beginning this Friday in conjunction with President Barack Obama's second inauguration next Monday. The organizers have created an agenda full of activities that include a workshop, powwow and youth gala.

The Native Youth Alliance will host some 100 American Indian youth at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, just minutes away from the nation's capital.

“I am so honored to have these young but very accomplished leaders that have come forward to donate their time and leadership skills with the youth, women and men circles because strengthening the 7th generation will only happen when we are able to help heal and build our communities together,”

commented Diane DuBray, Oglala Sioux Lakota/Cheyenne River Sioux, event coordinator.

Below is a Revised list of agenda for the inaugural events.

Friday, January 18
7 am, Sunrise Ceremony (all are welcome)
4 pm - 11 pm, Cancelled Reception and Dance

Saturday, January 19
7 am, Sunrise Ceremony (all are welcome)
8 am - 9 am, Workshop Registration.
9 am - 5 pm, Intergenerational Workshops - "Strengthening 7th Generation through Healing and Community Building"

Presenters: Christina Blackcloud, Emma Eagle Heart-White, Sarah Eagle Heart, Maura Garcia, Kevin Killer, Shane Montgomery, Bernie Shot With Arrow and Dirk Whitebreast.

6 pm - 9 pm Revised, Powwow (all are welcome, no entry fee)

Sunday, January 20
7 am, Sunrise Ceremony (all are welcome)
1 pm - 11 pm, Cancelled Powwow (all are welcome, no entry fee)

Monday, January 21
7 am, Sunrise Ceremony (all are welcome)
6 pm - 11 pm, Cancelled American Indian Inaugural Native Youth Alliance Gala.($100)
