BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA – The 20th Anniversary Celebration Berkeley Indigenous Peoples Day Powwow & Indian Market is headlining this week's Powwow Calendar for its Prettiest Shawl Contest.

Berkeley Indigenous Peoples Day Powwow & Indian Market

Native women have always taken time to create beautiful, one of a kind shawls often laboring for days, weeks or longer. Shawl is often a way of expressing themselves and the beauty around them. To have others appreciate their craftsmanship is the ultimate compliment. The Prettiest Shawl Contest is in recognition of these Native Artists.

This contest is being sponsored in memory of Millie Ketcheshawno, Muskogee Creek, one of the founders of the Indigenous Peoples' Day, and an ardent connoisseur of Native American Shawls. Everyone is invited to participate in this special contest, whether you are in full regalia or not. Please bring your favorite shawl and join in this special event. Cash prizes will be awarded, too.
