CHICAGO The video game industry is continuing its expansion into telling stories with non-white leads, well halfway anyway.
This week, Ubisoft announced the release date for the long anticipated Assassin's Creed III that takes place during the American Revolution and the new assassin is part American Indian.
For anyone new to the series, the Assassin Creed games follow the story of a young man hunted by the Knights Templar and his only way to defeat them is through a virtual reality where he relives the lives of his great assassin ancestors and uncovers their secrets.
The first two games dealt with a Middle Eastern assassin, Altaïr, during the third Crusade and an Italian heartthrob, Ezio, during the European Renaissance. The new assassin is a half-blooded Native named Ratohnhake:ton (Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo) or commonly known as Connor.
Known for their lush environments and historically based events, the Creed series promises to make no exception in this edition of the franchise. Ratohnhake:ton will interact with historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin and George Washington during the late eighteenth-century New York and Boston.
The game is set to come out October 31.
