Native American Heritage Month Celebrated on Loyola Campus Today

CHICAGO - In honor of Native American Heritage Month, "A Celebration of Indigenous Resilience" will be presented today at Loyola University's Bremner Lounge, located at 1125 Loyola Avenue, today at 4:00 pm.

This program is designed to raise awareness about contemporary American Indians and their culture by:

  • Debunking myths of the Indigenous People
  • Raise awareness of crimes against humanity
  • Understanding how deletion from history books impacts Indigenous community
  • Learning about how the culture and identity of this community has been preserved

The guest speaker will be Dr. Ted Karamanski, professor of history from Loyola University.

An expression of art with singing and dancing will be provided by the Black Hawk Performance Company.

Dr. Dorene Wiese, White Earth Ojibwe, will facilitate the wrap up session and provide a closing prayer.
