National Museum of the American Indian Hosts Olympic Fun Day

WASHINGTON – On Saturday, the first day of the Olympic Games in London, the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC is hosting an Olympic Fun Day.

The idea for an Olympic Fun Day originated within First Lady Michelle Obama's effort, Let's Move! Olympic Fun Days are being organized around the country to encourage kids to engage in a physical activity to coincide with the opening ceremonies at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The National Museum of the American Indian's Olympic Fun Day will begin at 12:30 pm edt, in the imagiNATIONS Activity Center on the 3rd level.

The museum will have several Native games for kids to try, including a Northern Woodlands ring and pin game, an Inuit yo-yo, Amazonian games and more. Children can try their skills at the virtual skateboarding game and have their picture taken in a kayak.

After the games, head down to the "Best in the World: Native Athletes in the Olympics" exhibition to see actual gold and silver medals won by great athletes like Jim Thorpe, Sac & Fox and Potawatomi and Billy Mills, Oglala Lakota. Each participant, 12 and under, will receive a hand held US flag for participating.
