CHICAGO - The Longest Walk 3 - Reversing Diabetes northern route will make its way through the Windy City beginning on May 23. The northern route Long Walkers began their walk across America in Portland, Oregon on February 14th, to bring attention to the devastating effects of diabetes has among American Indians.

“We are getting ready and have had several planning meetings,”

said Josie Dykas (Yaqui), the Longest Walk 3’s state coordinator for Illinois.

Currently, the northern route Long Walkers are in Wisconsin and making their way south to Illinois. They will be on hand for the “Wisconsin - Illinois Benefit Powwow” on Saturday, May 21. The powwow is billed as a fundraiser. It will be held at the Hidden Lakes Stable at 1808 - 128thStreet (also known as Russell Road) in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, which is close to the Illinois state line, north of Zion, Illinois.

May 24    Start at Lake Forest High School - end at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian

May 25    Chicago - Begin March through Chicago at Lake Shore/Foster with ceremony; end at 63rd Street beach (Lake Michigan) with a barbeque

May 26    Start at 63rd Street beach; end at Ho-Chunk Expo Center, Chicago Heights

May 27    Start at Ho-Chunk Expo Center; end Cedar Lake, Indiana
