Labor Day Weekend
SHINNECOCK INDIAN RESERVATION - Last weekend the Shinnecock Indian Nation survived the powerful winds of Hurricane Irene; this weekend they will celebrate with their 65th Shinnecock Powwow on their reservation on Long Island.
“We survived, but only have a few days to get ready for the powwow this weekend,”
said a grateful Randy King, tribal chairman told Native News Network on Monday.
In a news release issued the Tribe states: "Hurricane Irene has come and gone and The Shinnecock Indian Nation's 65th Annual Powwow will take place as scheduled. So come on down, bring the family, and join us in celebration!"
They're ready, after having to cut up a tree that had fallen on the powwow grounds.
The Labor Day weekend is packed with powwows all across Indian Country. Enjoy the holiday and be safe.
