LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission is seeking sponsorships to send low income families to a professional soccer game between the LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders to celebrate California Indian Day on October 28.
Sunday, October 28
“As always we are focusing raising funds for tickets with our focus on low income Indian families and youth who are part of the ICWA system,”
said Ron Andrade, director of the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission.
“We hope that you will be willing to donate tickets for these Indian people.”
All tickets donated will be considered a tax donation. This year the Galaxy team has some great offers.
The Commission needs at least 2 kids, 12 or older, to be ball boys. They will give the balls back to the players when the ball goes out of bounds.
The Commission is looking for an American Indian who can sing the National Anthem.
The Commission will utilize the services of the San Manual Color Guard with an opportunity to identify someone for on field recognition.
The Commission will invite one family to on the field during warm ups.
In previous years, the LA Galaxy have allowed Andrade's father, now a 95 year old World War II veteran, to stand with them on the field.
As in the past years, California style American Indian singing will be performed on the main concourse; as well as powwow singing and dancing before the game.
There are nearly 200,000 Indians in Los Angeles County.
The San Manual Band of Serrano Mission Indians, Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, Southern California Edison have agreed to be sponsors.
