Jiingtamok Where the past, Present and Future Meet to Dance and Sing

Native News Network Staff in Entertainment. Discussion »

Almost every native community in this part of the North American continent has a gathering once a year which is known to the Little River Band of Odawa as Jiingtamok. By most it is known as powwow.

It is a social event practiced by the Anishinaabe people.

It is a time when the Little River Band comes together to dance and to sing. They don't know how old this celebration is, but we all look forward to sharing the Jiingtamok with them every year.

The Little River Band have shared this tradition, a vital part of their culture, here. As they say:

“If we continue to teach our children our ways and our language, we can never loose it.”

The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Jiingtamok took place over the July 4th holiday.
