Hurricane IrenePowwow Cancelled

Native Brief: MASHANTUCKET, CONNECTICUT - Due to Hurricane Irene that has the most populous portion of the eastern seaboard under severe threat today and tomorrow, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has postponed its annual Green Corn Powwow scheduled for this weekend to next month.

The powwow has been rescheduled for September 16 - 18, the Tribe announced.

This year's three-day gathering will be the first at the new Mashantucket Cultural Grounds near Foxwoods Resort Casino. It features ceremonial drumming and dancing, plus Native food fare and arts.

The rescheduled powwow on the Mashantucket Indian Reservation begins Friday, September 16 from 4 pm - 9 pm.; Saturday 10 am - 10 pm and Sunday 10 am - 6 pm.

Shuttle service will be available to the powwow grounds from the Foxwoods Resort Casino, MGM Grand at Foxwoods and Two Trees Inn.
