Emerging Tribal EconomiesAugust 11-12

TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN - A two-day seminar, called "Emerging Tribal Economies," designed for tribal government officials will be presented in Traverse City, Michigan on August 11 - 12 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

American Indian tribal governments are charged with creating tribal economies. This seminar can help in that effort.

"Emerging Tribal Economies" is designed to stimulate tribal business development beyond the realm of gaming through diversification efforts and entrepreneurial endeavors. The seminar encourages tribes to create an environment to foster business development within their tribe business enterprises and through their tribal membership.

Four of the twelve tribal chairmen of the twelve recognized tribes in Michigan are slated to participate in two breakout sessions, as follows:

  • Developing Separate Non-Gaming Industries - A Panel Discussion - Derek Bailey, Tribal Chairman of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians
  • Tribal Leaders Roundtable - Larry Romaneli, Ogema, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and Dennis V. Kequeom, Sr., Tribal Chief, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe; and Jeffrey D. Parker, President, Bay Mills Indian Community

Tribal attorneys, tribal members, tribal governing bodies, tribal accountants, vendors to tribes, government officials, lenders and financial planners are encouraged to attend Emerging Tribal Economies.
