Eddie Benton Banai Danced at 28th Annual Saginaw Chippewa Powwow

ISABELLA INDIAN RESERVATION – On Saturday afternoon, dressed in full regalia, seventy-eight year old, Eddie Benton Banai, Ojibwe, gave the invocation at the Grand Entry of the 28th Annual Saginaw Chippewa Powwow.

He recalled coming to the Tribe's first powwow back in the summer of 1985.

“I'm from Wisconsin, where we have hills. I remember hearing about this powwow grounds called "The Hill" and asking where the hill was,”

joked Banai to a large crowd who sought shelter under tents from the hot sun that produced temperatures that were in the mid-90s by Grand Entry time.

Banai, was one of the original founding members of the American Indian Movement. He authored "The Mishomis Book."
