Omaha, Nebraska - Our own Native Health expert here at the Native News Network, Dr. Jessica Rickert, DDS has now become the featured role model for native American youth across Kansas and South Dakota.

As a tribal member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the first American Indian female to become a dentist, you couldn't get a better role model for an outreach project to encourage more Native American youth to explore and pursue careers in health and science professions, than Dr. Rickert.

The Native American Health and Science Career Role Model Poster Project features poster sets of Dr. Rickert and four other Native American role models as well as a curriculum developed to help schoolteachers present information on the variety of career opportunities in science and health care available for their students.

Developed by the Aberdeen Area Tribal Chairmen's Health Board and the University of Nebraska Medical Center with funding by a Science Education Partnership Award from the National Center For Research Resources (a component of the National Institutes of Health), the poster sets are available for purchase to interested schools for classroom use and display.

I hope you will join all of us at the Native News Network in thanking Dr. Jessica Rickert for all she does.
