WASHINGTON - The Coalition of Large Tribes, COLT, will meet this coming week in Washington to discuss energy development in Indian Country. COLT will join with the US Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs, BIA, to host the June 20 meeting.

The agenda is to review departmental regulations and policy related to Indian land and assets, as well as leasing, permitting and approvals related to energy development with the purpose of streamlining these regulations. This will include coordination with the different BIA Regional Offices with the intent of standardizing oil, gas and renewable energy-related leasing policy and regulations to encourage development to the fullest extent possible for American Indian tribes.

On July 21, COLT will host an Indian energy conference entitled, "Achieving the Potential of Indian Tribal Energy - Challenges and Opportunities," with the goal of developing a comprehensive Indian Energy Bill capable of passing the US Congress this year. The conference will take place in the Hearing Room of the US Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Room 628 Dirksen.
