OTTAWA, CANADA – On this Christmas Eve, Chief Theresa Spence enters her 14th day of her hunger strike.

Yesterday, Chief requested that as many of the First Nation traditional women healers journey to Victoria Island where she is staying in a teepee during her hunger strike to attend to her. Victoria Island is near Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada's capital city.

She has made this call for women to come to pray for Canada; not because she is in imminent danger, according to a source contacted by the Native News Network, who confirmed the request that was posted in the internet.

She also requested Laureen Harper, the wife of Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper to attend. Chief Spence has asked to meet with Harper as a condition to end her hunger strike. She began her hunger strike on December 11 to bring attention to the sweeping legislation put forth by the Harper Conservative government that in essence will terminate treaty rights of the First Nations peoples.

Since Canada is a Britain Commonwealth, she has also asked to meet Governor General David Johnston, Queen Elizabeth's representative in Canada.

As she is about to embark on her third week of her hunger strike, no meeting has been set, even though the opposition party in Canada has urged both men to meet with Chief Spence.

Chief Spence is weak, but in good spirits, according to sources who have visited her on Victoria Island. Continued prayers are requested for her health as she continues her hunger fast into the holidays.
