ADA, OKLAHOMA The Chickasaw Nation was honored recently with two top awards for marketing efforts during the US Travel Association's annual Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations conference in Richmond, Virginia.
The Chickasaw Nation earned a 2013 Destiny award in both the Best Travel website and Best Use of Social Media Platform categories during the Tourism conference.
The Chickasaw Nation was honored with a Best Travel website award for its “Chickasaw Country” website and Best Use of Social Media Platform. A travel writer’s adventures throughout Chickasaw Country are chronicled on ChickasawCountry.com, capturing the “social” aspect of social media.
In addition, the Nation was cited by the Web Marketing Association’s 2013 WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in web Development, and Travel Weekly’s Silver Magellan Award also for ChickasawCountry.com."Earning these awards is a tribute to the outstanding teamwork, dedication and innovation of Chickasaw Nation staff and our partners. Launched in 2011, chickasawcountry.com promotes south-central Oklahoma as an international destination highlighting nature, culture, recreation and entertainment.
The site provides engaging photography combined with detailed information about lodging, restaurants, attractions, recreation and events to provide visitors numerous ways to explore Chickasaw Country, the 13 counties that comprise the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation. Venues outside the boundaries supported by the Chickasaw Nation, such as Remington Park in Oklahoma City, are also featured.
ChickasawCountry.com provides families, business groups and weekend-vacationers one site to discover unique destinations which offer adventure, culture, and an array of lodging options suitable for any budget.
The site, which features social media integration, builds awareness of Chickasaw Country’s recreational and cultural offerings and helps increase travel and hotel bookings within the region.
ChickasawCountry.com is accessible via desktop and mobile devices, offering visitors an interactive experience at home or on the road.
In addition, the travel writer’s blog “Canvasing Chickasaw County” focuses on five categories – do, see, shop, eat and stay. Readers travel with Lindsey Davidson through her jaunts and adventures in Chickasaw Country.

Destiny awards are given to destination marketing organizations at the local and regional levels to recognize excellence and creative accomplishment in tourism marketing and promotion, and to inspire the continued development of exciting destination marketing and promotion programs. More than 160 entries were submitted for various categories and a total of 17 awards were given in 17 categories.
The Destinations Council Destiny Award program recognizes US Travel destination members for excellence and creative accomplishment in destination marketing and promotion at the local and regional level; and foster the development of imaginative and innovative destination marketing promotion programs and activities.
This year the awards were judged by J. Walter Thompson, JWT, a global advertising agency. Judges offered a unique perspective because the agency was chosen to help develop Brand USA's national travel promotion strategy.
