President Obama’s Home

As the Longest Walk 3 - Reversing Diabetes northern route made its way through the Windy City, they decided to make a quick detour of a few blocks to go by President Obama's Chicago residence in the upscale Hyde Park neighborhood.

“We could say from the Obama's House to the White House,”

quipped Josie Dykas, Yaqui, who served as the Illinois coordinator for the Longest Walk 3.

On a normal basis, the Obama home is protected by the US Secret Service. Traffic is regulated by barricades on the street immediately in front of the residence.

As the Long Walkers carrying an eagle staff and flags made their way down the adjacent street and got in eye's view of the secret service men, several others appeared out of nowhere to determine why this group of American Indians had come.

Organizers of the Longest Walk explained to the supervisor of the Secret Service who approached them as to why they were walking across America. He informed the group that unless they had special permission from the White House, where they were was as far as they could go.

Several Long Walkers quickly spread out for a photo opportunity.
